Wordpress Vs Joomla
I have to say that this blogging lark is nice and easy.
The next step is to add static pages to this current Wordpress blog. At the same time, I’m going to be trying a Joomla site with blog on a different domain as well. Wordpress has some great features out of the box but seems reluctant to integrate static pages at first glance. I’ll be putting more effort into that though so expect a page or 2 popping up here over the next few weeks.
Joomla, on the other hand, seems quite at home in creating news pages and static content - let’s see how it fairs with a blog/podcast platform.
This is all still in preparation of launching a fully functioning Graphic Basics site with blog and podcast functionality. The reason for all this testing is to make sure it doesn’t collapse in on itself and need fixing or switching systems months after it’s launch.
But Craig - you’re a web designer - can’t you just do it all yourself?
Yes, I am a web designer, someone who designs sites for a living. I can also create static HTML/CSS sites with ease BUT creating more complex features found in blogs, forums or RSS feeds is a little beyond me - which is why, in my day job, I work with web programmers and developers.
This being a personal project, it’s all up to me - hence the testing of this Wordpress run site and the Joomla site (which I’ll add the URL here when there’s something to look at).
I have to say though, one of the biggest plus point for Wordpress is the ability to use MarsEdit (a very nice and easy blog poster) automatically but I’m still trying to figure out the settings for using it with Joomla (if those settings actually exist). If you blog on a Mac, go check it out!
More news as it unfolds!
